Windcliff: A Story of People, Plants, and Gardens (2020) by Daniel J. Hinkley is a book about the garden he made on a bluff above Puget Sound in Washington. Hinkley recalls his childhood in Michigan, his training in horticulture and the plant-hunting trips that shaped his taste, and touches briefly on Heronswood, the nursery he founded with his husband, architect Robert Jones. He then follows the making of Windcliff, his second garden, explaining the principles behind its design and the plants he grew there from seeds and cuttings.
