Winner Takes All: A Life of Sorts
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Winner Takes All (2004) is the autobiography of British film director and restaurant critic Michael Winner, whose films include Death Wish and The Mechanic. He recounts a career spanning British films of the 1960s and Hollywood action pictures of the 1970s, and working with stars such as Marlon Brando, Charles Bronson and Sophia Loren. The book is full of anecdote, score-settling and self-mockery, in the brash voice that also made Winner a fixture as a newspaper columnist.

- Edgar Wright: “His book is actually a very fun read. Especially at the end of every chapter where he finds every positive review of even his worst.”
