Woke Racism: How a New Religion Has Betrayed Black America
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Woke Racism is linguist John McWhorter's critique of the antiracism movement that spread through American institutions around 2020. McWhorter argues that this strain of thought works less like a political program than a religion, with its own clergy, sins and heretics. He contends that it does little to help Black Americans and often harms them, and he offers practical policy ideas, such as ending the war on drugs and changing how reading is taught, along with advice for resisting its excesses.
