World Development Report 1993: Investing in Health is the World Bank's annual development report for 1993, devoted to the links between health, health policy and economic development. It argued that many deaths in poor countries could be prevented at low cost, introduced the disability-adjusted life year (DALY) to compare the burden of disease, and set out cost-effective packages of public health and clinical services that governments could prioritize.

- Bill Gates: “Well, before I read that, I thought that the world was really prioritizing how money was spent so that it would go after these inexpensive ways of saving lives… But once I read that report, I said, hey, there is something here, actually a tragedy that it's not addressed, but in terms of being the key priority that we could put our energies into and go after, it just jumped out at me.”
