Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories
By Dr. Seuss
Categories: Children's Books
This 1958 collection of three tales opens with Yertle, king of the pond on the island of Sala-ma-Sond, who orders his subjects to stack themselves into a living throne so he can rule all he sees, while Mack, at the bottom, bears the weight. Gertrude McFuzz, about a bird who longs for a fancier tail, and The Big Brag, in which a rabbit and a bear boast until a worm humbles them, complete the book. Dr. Seuss said Yertle was modeled on Hitler.

- Richard Branson: “I have been reading a lot of books by one of my favourite authors, Dr Seuss... There is more wisdom and humour in his cartoons and rhymes than in any number of lengthy and highbrow books.”
