Honest Signals: How They Shape Our World
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences, Science & Math
MIT computer scientist Alex Pentland contends that people communicate through a second channel of unconscious social signals, subtle patterns of interaction that reveal attitudes and intentions. These honest signals, rooted in ancient primate signaling, strongly influence major decisions. Drawing on data gathered with wearable sociometer badges, Pentland's research team found that such signals can predict the outcome of situations ranging from job interviews and salary negotiations to first dates.

- Seth Godin: “Pentland is a professor at MIT, and this is ostensibly a book about some amazing technology he's putting together that quietly measures the interactions people have all day when they're not remembering that the system is watching. What it's actually about, though, is the incredible power of nonverbal communication and tribal hierarchies in the way we interact.”
