Just Mercy
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Law
Bryan Stevenson's 2014 memoir tells how, as a young lawyer, he founded the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, to defend the poor, the wrongly condemned and others failed by the justice system. At its center is the case of Walter McMillian, a Black man sentenced to death for a murder he did not commit. Stevenson weaves his long fight for McMillian with the stories of children sentenced to life in prison and other clients, making the case for mercy in a system built on punishment.
