Reasons and Persons
By Derek Parfit
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Derek Parfit's 1984 book challenges some of our deepest beliefs about rationality, morality and personal identity. Parfit argues that we have a false view of our own nature, that it is often rational to act against our own best interests and that many common moral views defeat themselves. In its final part he turns to our obligations to future generations, and he concludes that non-religious moral philosophy is a young subject with a promising but unpredictable future.
