The Ministry for the Future
Categories: Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Fantasy
Kim Stanley Robinson's 2020 novel opens with a deadly heat wave in India and follows the Ministry for the Future, an international agency set up in 2025 to speak for generations not yet born. Based in Zurich and led by the Irish diplomat Mary Murphy, the Ministry pushes governments, banks and activists to act on climate change. Robinson tells the story through many voices, from eyewitnesses to officials, and mixes the narrative with short essays on carbon, economics and global politics.
